Canopy, LLC Introduces PDF ProofStreamer

Juli 2000 - Canopy (formerly the PrimeSource Digital Print Group) today announced the introduction of PDF ProofStreamer, a tool that allows digital printers the ability to create on-screen pre-flighting of variable data, imposition and traditional jobs for Xeikon digital presses, before they are delivered to press. Using PDF ProofStreamer, designers and print production supervisors can protect the integrity and security of customer/prospect databases, while assuring the predictability of jobs.
ProofStreamer was on display during Drupa 2000 at the Xeikon booth. The company expects to commence shipment in early August.
Until now, there was no guaranteed on-screen proof of press-ready data. ProofStreamer simulates the print capabilities of the Xeikon PrintStreamer, producing an on-screen display of virtually any static or variable data job. Its PDF-based technology simulates data merging, layering, collation and imposition and creates „thin proofs“ of all unique job versions. By doing so, it allows designers and production supervisors the opportunity to verify that simple short run jobs, or all versions of one-to-one marketing collateral, will impose and print correctly. ProofStreamer is able to analyze the Xeikon Book Ticket file to extract only the unique versions. This reduces the reliance on press proofs to color accuracy and print sample production.
Just as helpful, PDF ProofStreamer allows a prepress department to assure that a job will be imposed and printed correctly. By preflighting the job to screen, imposition can be tested for correctness. A document can also be tested to assure it is collated accurately.
Security Issues…
PDF ProofStreamer was also developed to protect the security of a client’s database — critical within the financial community. Accurate on-screen pre-flighting of entire variable data print jobs helps protect sensitive customer data in remote print applications. The entire job can be checked, proofed and signed off by the customer from a single location.
Upon completion of design and proofing, PDF files are delivered to the print site along with a Xeikon book ticket for production. Thus, sensitive customer databases and other information are distributed only in the form of finished output. In this way, the print site never has access to the pure database, and the integrity of the information stays with the client.
Efficient Training Tool…
Canopy also expects ProofStreamer to become an outstanding, efficient training tool. Rather than using valuable press time, students can remotely learn and proof variable print jobs without wasting a single piece of paper.
